Parasites in Waiting: Day 2

If you weren't sure what you were reading up to this point or if you had forgotten, this is a journal of my experience doing an elimination diet in a third-world country (namely Guatemala).  Feel free to read about my regular adventures on my normal blog.

Anyway, part of the fun of living in a third-world country is that sometimes you get parasites.  Guess what...sugar day went horribly.  Why?  Seems I had some little critters living in my gut--not my usual problem as I get treated for them somewhat regularly--and they loved that sugar.  I woke up around 1 am the next morning a little uncomfortable.  I figured it was just from having weird dreams which I've often had if I eat sugar before bed.  By 5 am, I was unable to sleep laying on my stomach...not that I could lay on my stomach as I was doubled over in pain.  Short of the parasites in the toilet (which I have had before), I had every single parasite symptom; so, I wandered over to the pharmacy and bought some parasite medication.  It's a 3-day treatment, and I'll take my last pill tomorrow morning.

I had originally decided to go back to my original elimination during this time (taking my precious dairy and fruit back out), but then I decided not to.  Yes, I cut down on dairy, but I didn't cut it out.  And, I actually upped the fruit.  Papaya seeds are supposed to be good for getting rid of parasites as is pineapple.  So, despite buying pills, I also picked up a papaya and a pineapple at the market.  I haven't eaten either one yet; I'm considering making a smoothie tomorrow after I buy a blender.  (I went window shopping today with someone who I trust to help me make good decisions on that sort of stuff.)  I really don't like papaya, and I really do like pineapple, but it usually makes my throat itch.

Anyway, tomorrow is one more day on hold, and then I'll try putting something boring into my diet on Tuesday such as chicken or potatoes.  I have an excellent baked chicken recipe...yum yum.  (Except it includes potatoes; so I'll just have to alter it a little for now.)
